The Chetti Melaka community represent a fast disappearing aspect of Singapore’s cultural heritage. A community unique to the Straits region, their heritage is an amalgamation of diverse multi-cultural influences – Indian, Malay and Chinese.
For 2018, Indian Heritage Centre’s special exhibition titled ‘Chetti Melaka of the Straits – Rediscovering Peranakan Indian Communities’ inspires IHC CultureFest. It will showcase unique and intangible aspects of Singapore’s Chetti Melaka heritage. It will provide visitors with glimpses of Chetti Melaka fashion, cuisine, and arts as a celebration of their cross-cultural heritage.
